Health Care Bias Interrupter

Participate as a member of a collaborative coaching team, providing bias interruption during coaching meetings with healthcare providers caring for complex patients in hospital settings.

This position is part of a pilot project and the hours are very part-time, likely no more than 1-2 hours per week. The project is time-limited with the possibility of continuing if the project is fully funded. Services will be requested on an as needed basis, likely no more than 2 hours per week, with availability possibility needed during common change of shift hours (0600-0800; 1500-1600; 1900-2100). Participation in the collaborative coaching meetings may be virtual or on-site in a hospital setting.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Observe coaching conversations;
  • Assist coaches and nurses in recognizing unconscious biases throughout discussions, especially as it pertains to BIPOC and LBGTQ+ patients and family members;
  • Be the voice for diverse perspectives, assisting in identifying strengths and resources that may be overlooked;
  • Develop strategies for measuring and documenting bias interruption interventions;
  • Additional responsibilities as identified

We are looking for candidates who have some of the following professional or life experiences, skills, or training:

  • Experience working with diversity, equity and inclusion in organizations, or have academic training in this area;
  • Knowledge of health and mental health care inequities;
  • Good oral communication skills, especially with conflict resolution and de-escalation;
  • Experience coaching others;
  • Familiarity with any of the following communities: African-American, Latinx, Native, Somali, southeast Asian and refugee/Immigrant communities

This is a contract position, paid at an hourly rate for requested services. Reimbursement is $100/hour.
